Causes of Garage Door Damage

Causes of Garage Door Damage

Garage doors are some of the strongest and heaviest items in a given home, and considering all the heavy work they do on a regular basis, it’s no surprise that the occasional bit of garage door repair is needed. At Price’s Guaranteed Doors, we’re here to provide all the repairs and service you may be in need of.

What are some of the most common issues that can crop up with damaged garage doors? Let’s take a look at how to identify and manage these issues.

Broken Springs

Broken garage door springs are one of the most common issues with all garage door types, due simply to the realities of constant us. Springs have an enormous amount of stress placed on them over time – the more often you open your garage, the higher the stress amount. Garage spring repair is a relatively simple task, however, and broken springs really aren’t anyone’s fault, rather just a simple result of basic physics.

Worn Rollers

A roller’s job is to make sure there’s limited drag as the door operator pulls the door up and down on its track. Different rollers will have different shelf lives – at Price’s, we only install the highest quality materials meant to last. Roller quality is important not only for functionality, but for safety – the door isn’t fighting itself to open, and isn’t as susceptible to accidents.

Cables Breaking

The lifting cables, also referred to as “wire rope,” can fray and become brittle over time despite their aircraft quality. These issues are often visible to the naked eye, and any worn or frayed cables should be replaced immediately before they unwind and snap – a potentially dangerous and damaging outcome. Garage door cables are generally replaced in pairs, to ensure they’re identical length.

Hinges and Hardware

Hinges don’t often break, but they can become noisy if they require oil or lubrication. As for hardware, items like bearings and sheaves are moving parts that can wear out with regular use – once again, regular lubrication will go a long way to preventing this kind of wear and tear.
